How do I install TiVo Desktop for Windows?

The instructions below apply to TiVo Desktop for Windows. You can download the latest version of TiVo Desktop for Windows by clicking here.

 

 

WARNING: Do not attempt to install or uninstall TiVo Desktop 2.6 using the Windows Remote Desktop feature. TiVo Desktop install and uninstall do not support Remote Access functionality.

 

WARNING: You will encounter a warning if you attempt to install TiVo Desktop 2.6 on a Microsoft Windows system with a previous version of TiVo Desktop already installed. You can resolve this problem by using the Programs and Features Control Panel to uninstall the previous version. If you are unable to uninstall the previous verison using the Programs and Features Control Panel, you can use the TiVo Desktop Cleaner utility to remove all traces of the previous version of TiVo Desktop, except the MAK key and the Plus key.

 


TiVo Desktop has the following system requirements:

 

A personal computer running Microsoft Windows XP, Service Pack 2 or Microsoft Windows Vista with the following configuration:

  • 500 megahertz processor
  • 256 MB RAM
  • 5 GB free disk space

See the Read Me file in the Start Menu after installation for more information. If you upgrade to TiVo Desktop Plus to convert files for a portable media device or to view internet based videos on your TiVo DVR, we recommend the following hardware:

  • 1 gigahertz processor
  • 512 MB RAM
 

 

NOTE: To install TiVo Desktop for Windows, you must have Administrator or Power User administrative rights on your computer.

 

 

 

To install TiVo Desktop for Windows, perform the following steps:

 

 

1.  Double-click the TiVo Desktop installer icon.

 

 

NOTE: If you receive a Windows security message, select Run.If you encounter a warning message indicating a previous version of TiVo Desktop needs to uninstalled, see How do I uninstall TiVo Desktop?

 

 

2.  On the Welcome screen, click Next.

 

 

3.  Read the License Agreement, and if you agree, click to select I accept the license agreement and then click Next.

4.  Read the Readme Information and click Next.

 

 

5.  Click Next if you want TiVo Desktop to be installed in the default location. Otherwise, click Browse and select the directory where you would like the application to install.

 

 

6.  Enter your Media Access Key. Click Next to continue. 

 

NOTE: You can find your Media Access Key in either of these two places:

 
    • From your TiVo DVR: Go to TiVo Central, select Messages & Setup, then Account and System Information, then Media Access Key.

    • Online: Go to http://www/tivo.com/manage. Log into Manage My Account, then click on the "Media Access Key" link on the right side of your screen.

 

7.  Choose which Installation Options you want by checking or unchecking the boxes next to each option. Click Next to continue.

 

8.  Read the Internet settings information and click Next to begin installation.

 

9.  Once installation is completed, click Finish.

 

10.  You will also need to have a supported media player to play back the files that you transfer to your PC using the TiVoToGo feature. We recommend Microsoft Windows Media Player 11*.

 

NOTE: You may be able to play files transferred to your PC using TiVoToGo in other media players, but you may experience video quality and other playback issues.

 

11.  You have now finished installing TiVo Desktop for Windows. Refer to the following articles to get started using your Home Media features:
